What you need for the perfect picnic

We take great pride in every picnic table we make at Fenton Timber and we want you to enjoy your new purchase for many years to come. As our gift to you we have compiled this guide to help you create the perfect picnic for your family.

Things you need:

  1. A large basket: Invest in a large wicker basket or buy a traditional hamper and you’ll be able to use it on your domestic picnic table or take it with you when you go on family trips in the future. The basket should be large enough to carry all your food and most hampers come with a host of accessories.
  2. A table cloth: Our picnic tables are made from hard-wearing timber designed to cope with the inclement nature of the British weather. Still, you might want to use a table cloth if you want to create a posh picnic setting and really impress your family and friends.
  3. A rug: Choose one our picnic benches and they have seating areas built into them. However, if you are travelling to a remote location to tuck into your picnic you might want to spread a rug on the ground to create a cost setting to enjoy your food.
  4. A selection of food: The best part of a picnic! Take a selection of British food along with you, Scotch eggs, pork pies, cheeses and pickles and a selection of sandwiches go down a treat. Or try a Mediterranean menu instead with a selection of hams, chorizo, cheeses and roasted vegetables accompanied by rustic bread and olive oil. Think about dessert as well. Scones with clotted cream and jam are great for a picnic or how about a cheeky slice of Battenberg cake?
  5. Drinks: Take a bottle of fizz along with you if you are planning a romantic picnic, or a flask of tea or coffee if it’s a family affair. Soft drinks will be required for the children as well, cartons of juice are handy or take cloudy lemonade for the perfect picnic tipple.
  6. Cutlery, crockery and plates:  Knives and forks will be useful for the picnic, so pack them in the bottom of the hamper along with a melamine set as well. Buy a hamper and there’s a good chance it will come with a melamine set included so that’s one less thing to worry about.
  7. Plastic glasses: Lastly, you are going to need something to drink out of so buy a set of plastic glasses that can be used time and time again. They’ll see plenty of action over the years, especially if you invest in one of the picnic tables from our current range.
